|GREEK JEWRY REJOICES THE RELEASE OF GILAD SHALIT|
|Tuesday, 25 October 2011 08:21|
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses its satisfaction for the release of the 25year old Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, in return for the release of 1.027 Palestinian prisoners, condemned for terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens and detained in Israel. Gilad Shalit was arrested and kept hostage by Hamas in 2006 and since then it was not allowed to any humanitarian organization, including the International Red Cross, to see him.
With this agreement the Israeli society proves that it is determined and ready to protect the life and ensure the freedom of its children without hesitating to agree to the release of heinous murderers of innocent Israeli citizens. As the President of Israel Mr. Simon Peres noted: “The salvation of one Israeli citizen is equal with the salvation of the entire population”.
It is to be noted that during the captivity period, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece had asked the Greek Governments to contribute to the effort for the release of Gilad Shalit, who is also a French citizen. This issue was considered of high humanitarian importance for the World and Greek Jewry and therefore congratulations must be offered to the Egyptian and German mediators in acknowledgement of their work for this favorable outcome.
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece shares the joy of the Shalit family for the return of their son in their arms.
